FAQs
How do I book a free consultation with Counselling with Sue?
Booking a free 15-minute consultation is simple. Complete the enquiry form on my website and I'll get back to you as soon as possible to arrange a convenient time. The consultation gives us an opportunity to briefly discuss what you're looking for, answer any questions you may have and decide whether we're the right fit. There is no obligation to continue with counselling.
What happens during the first counselling session?
The first session is an opportunity for us to get to know each other. We'll explore what has brought you to counselling, discuss what you hope to achieve and answer any questions you may have. There's no pressure to share everything straight away, we work at a pace that feels comfortable for you.
What types of counselling do you offer?
I offer a range of counselling options to suit different needs and lifestyles, including:
Individual counselling
Couples counselling
Face-to-face counselling in Whitstable
Online counselling across the UK
Telephone counselling
Message-based counselling
Together we can decide which option feels right for you.
How much does counselling cost?
Individual counselling sessions are £30 for 50 minutes.
Couples counselling sessions are £45 for 50 minutes.
Message-based sessions are £20 for 1 hour
I also offer a free 15-minute consultation before you decide whether counselling is right for you.
Do you offer online counselling?
Yes. I provide online counselling through Microsoft Teams to clients throughout the UK. Online sessions offer the same confidential and supportive experience as face-to-face counselling, allowing you to access therapy from the comfort of your own home.
Do I need a referral?
No. You can contact me directly without a referral from your GP or another professional.
Is counselling confidential?
Yes. Everything discussed during counselling is confidential, with a few legal and ethical exceptions. These will always be explained clearly during our first session so you understand how your information is protected.
What issues can counselling help with?
People come to counselling for many different reasons, including:
Anxiety
Stress
Depression
Low self-esteem
Bereavement and grief
Relationship difficulties
Life changes
Feeling overwhelmed
Work-related stress
Personal development
You don't need to be in crisis to benefit from counselling.
How many counselling sessions will I need?
There isn't a fixed number of sessions. Some people find a few sessions helpful, while others benefit from longer-term support. We'll regularly review your progress together and decide what feels right for you.
I'm nervous about counselling. Is that normal?
Absolutely. Many people feel anxious before their first session. It's completely normal to feel unsure or wonder what to expect. My aim is to provide a warm, supportive and non-judgemental space where you can talk openly at your own pace.
Will your dogs be present during my counselling session?
I understand that everyone is different. Some people prefer a completely dog-free environment, while others find being around a friendly dog calming and reassuring. My dogs are normally kept separate, but if you feel having one present would help you feel more at ease, we can discuss this before your session.
Do you offer evening or weekend appointments?
Yes. Evening and weekend appointments are available by request, subject to availability. If you need an appointment outside of standard daytime hours, please let me know when you get in touch and I'll do my best to accommodate you.
Where are you based?
I offer face-to-face counselling from my private counselling room in Whitstable, Kent. I also provide online counselling across the UK via Microsoft Teams, as well as telephone and message-based counselling.
Who do you work with?
I work with adults aged 18 and over. I provide individual and couples counselling in a warm, supportive and non-judgemental environment.
How do I pay for my counselling sessions?
Payment is by bank transfer and is requested before your scheduled appointment. Full payment details will be provided when your appointment is confirmed.
Can I stop counselling at any time?
Yes. Counselling is entirely your choice, and you are free to end therapy whenever you feel ready. If possible, I encourage us to have a final session together so we can reflect on the work we've done and bring our sessions to a positive and planned ending.
What qualifications do you have?
I hold a Diploma in Counselling and a Diploma in Advanced Counselling and Psychotherapy.
I am also a member of the Association of British Counselling and Psychotherapy (ABCAP) and work in accordance with its Code of Ethics.
To ensure I provide the highest standard of care, I regularly undertake continuing professional development (CPD) and attend clinical supervision as part of my ongoing professional practice.
